Dragon Dictation and Dragon Search Now Available in Canadian App Store

Many of you have asked about the ability to download Dragon Dictation and Dragon Search outside of the U.S. I’m pleased to announce that we are making the U.S. versions of the Dragon Applications available on the Canadian App Store. These versions support U.S. English and will use U.S. English spellings (“center” vs. “centre”, “color” vs. “colour”, etc.).

Canadian users, you will want to verify that your iPhone or iPod Touch’s Region Format is set to Canada (see Dragon Search FAQ -> General) to search Canada specific content.

We’re very excited to hear your feedback from up North in Canada – so download it today and let us know what you think! For those of you with an iPod Touch, see our recent blog posting here to learn more about how to get the most out of your iPod Touch experience.

It’s also important to note that we are continuously working on new dialects and languages, including new dialects for English, French and other languages. Once we’re ready to roll them out – you’ll be the first to know!

Let me be the first to thank Scott for this announcement. Great News. I downloaded the application soon after receiving this application and it works quite well.

It was worth the long wait after being teased that the U.S. market got to use it first.

I look forward to see what other new applications Nuance might have for us!

By way of an enhancement, could Dragon offer email text or clipboard as a spoken option rather than forcing the user to touch the keyboard. This is an important feature in the Ontario market where it is illegal to operate your cellular phone while driving if you are not using a bluetooth option.

Speaking the instructions would be a great enhancement.

I've been waiting for this since I saw the US release. Works very well! I also appreciated being emailed that it was available.

Can you please provide an explanation as to why it is apparently planned to only make this app available in the USA and Canada? I am certain that there are many more anglophones like me living outside North America that would be happy to pay for this by-all-accounts-excellent app if it were possible...

Thank you very much for making this app available to Canadians. The reviews on the American site were very enthusiastic, and now that I've had an opportunity to try it, I agree with them. This is an extremely useful tool. Thanks again.

Please please make this app available in the UK now! it is great and for someone like my son, who has just gone totally blind and can't type, it is an iphone absolute necessity. PLEASE nuance, make it available, even a test version.

thank you

Can I echo the views of my fellow commenters above in gently asking why you're not making available across all countries?

My deaf daughter would love this app on her Windows mobile fone. She cannot afford an iphone as they have no data/text only plan. A real business opprtunity in the Deaf community for many products.

It would be great to be able to access it here in New Zealand also. Looking forward to hearing news on when it might be available...

Dragon Dictation is optimized with US English language models that include US English spellings, dialects, accents from different US geographies and regional cultural elements. To provide the best experience in other English speaking parts of the world, we’re working hard to adapt our US English language model with those elements mentioned. We are very committed to serving our international Dragon community and will keep you posted on our progress.

Is it true that upon download and install, that the program will forward my contacts to your company???

DragonMobileApps said...

We do not upload contacts at installation. When you install the application, you will be presented with a screen asking you if it is OK to add your names to the vocabulary, after accepting the EULA. You can opt to upload or not at this point.

You can refer to the following blog article for more information - http://blog.dragonmobileapps.com/2009/12/you-speak-dragon-listens.html

To learn how to change Upload Contacts setting at a later point visit our support site at http://www.dragonmobileapps.com/supportdictation.html -> Privacy.
